Smashing Pumpkins

My first exposure to Smashing Pumpkins was back in 1990 when La Dolly Vita was played on the radio. The DJ said that they were going to be the next big thing. Well, he was almost right. The Pumpkins debut album started making some noise on the charts and in reviews and on the radio and on MTV but then Kurt Cobain and all 3 of the chords he knows stormed into the scene. It wasn't until the 2nd video from the 2nd album - Today - that the pop charts would smell like teen Pumpkins. They rose to dominate the airwaves and then they quickly fell out of sight. I remained a fan to the end, even if Machina kinda sucked.

Gish
  1991

This my favourite album of all time by any band ever. This is better than Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath. This is better than Rush's 2112. This is it, kids.
Best song: Window Paine    Worst song: Daydream
Siamese Dream
  1993
Their 2nd album is almost as amazing as the debut. A few songs are a little over the top, but it's still a 5 Skull album and contains my very favourite song of all time by any band ever.
Best song: Mayonaise     Worst song: Silverfuck
Pisces Iscariot
  1994
I love b-sides, especially when they're neatly compiled like this. This album is great. There are a few clunkers but there are a half dozen awesome songs.
Best song: Pissant     Worst song: Spaced
Vieuphoria
  1994
I have the DVD version of this compilation of interviews, skits and live performances. Overall, it's nothing a casual fan requires but bits of it are brilliant.
Best song: Mayonaise     Worst song: Today
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
  1995
The giant double album has a dozen masterpieces on it. The musical styles are all over the place as the Pumpkins play every variety of rock music possible.
Best song: Zero     Worst song: Take Me Down
The Aeroplane Flies High
  1997
This is a box set of the 5 singles from MCatIS. Each disk has a totally different feel. The Zero CD has all the awesome rock songs while Tonight Tonight's b-sides are all mellow.
Best song: Set the Ray to Jerry     Worst song: A Night Like This
Adore
  1998
Drummerless and bored with rock & roll, they added some trip-hop industrial elements to the mix making this very interesting and often awesome album.
Best song: Crestfallen     Worst song: Appels + Oranjes
Machina
  2000
Oops. Billy & friends try to play rock & roll again but it sounds like they forgot how. The straight up rock songs are bland while the leftover experimental stuff is really good.
Best song: Blue Skies Bring Tears    Worst song: I of the Mourning
  Machina II
  2000
This vinyl only rarity mailed out at random to fan club members suffers from dreadful sound quality and the same lack of inspiration that went into the first Machina album.
Best song: Lucky 13     Worst song: Heavy Metal Machine
Judas 0
  2001
The posthumous Greatest Hits CD comes with a 2nd rarities compilation. Half of the songs here are brand new and luckily quite good. The best ones are tinged with Adore's industrial edge.
Best song: Saturnine     Worst song: Because You Are
