I've begun purging my CD collection. I moved recently and realized that 1400+ is a ludicrous amount of CDs. So, I've been gradually selling off the ones I don't really need to the used CD joint. I typically walk in with a stack of 15 or 20 CDs and leave with 2 or 3 used DVDs and $10-$20. It's pretty rad. I've also set up a store at half.com which has proven to be most lucrative.
Meanwhile, it's all being backed up on both my 250GB external drive and on CD-R. I like owning lots of music but can do without all the plastic that goes with it. To further reinforce this new trend o' mine, I've recently acquired an eMusic account. There are and will likely always be bands whose CDs I will physically purchase. But there's so much crap I just don't need anymore that I'm hoping to cut my collection to under 1200 by the end of 2008.

CD History:
The very first CD I ever owned was Starcaster by the band Head Candy. I won it on the radio and didn't own a CD at the time so I traded it to Autumn for (I think) his Twisted Sister - Come Out And Play tape. I also won my second CD on the radio. It was Just Say Anything - Volume V of the Just Say Yes series. I gave it to Laura for her birthday or Christmas or something. The third CD I ever owned was Carter USM's Sheriff Fatman single. I still didn't have a CD player, but I had to have it. I sold it to Derik and then made a copy for myself on cassette.

Then, in 1992, my high school graduation present was a new stereo including a 5 disc carousel CD player (which I still have). That night at Project: Graduation (which every senior went to except for Ness - which I guess means that only she'll get into Heaven) I received my fourth CD in a raffle. It was Going Blank Again by Ride. I had never heard of Ride. I played the CD the next morning and I really liked it. (Today, I own 9 Ride CDs.) The next day, I grew tired of listening to Ride constantly and I went to South Park (the mall, not the show) to buy four more CDs to put in my 5 disc changer. I purchased a bizarre assortment indeed:

Elvis Hitler - Supersadomasochisticexpialidocious
Nine Inch Nails - Head Like A Hole
(11 track single)
Firehose - Live Totem Pole EP (featuring a BÖC cover)
The Fatima Mansions - Tima Mansio Dumps The Dead
